• A Financial Power of Attorney lets you step in to help them manage their bank account, handle car registration issues, or co-sign a lease agreement back home if they are too ill to act for themselves, or even if they are busy with finals or studying abroad.

  
  

2. THE ESSENTIAL COLLEGE-SPECIFIC FORMS:

• Even if you are paying every dime of tuition, federal privacy laws prevent colleges from sharing grades, billing statements, or disciplinary issues with parents. Have your student log into their university portal to sign an Authorization to Disclose Education Records – also known as a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Release. 

  
  

• Most university health centers manage their own internal health portals separate from major hospital networks. Have your student complete the specific Health Center Privacy Release Form directly on their university’s portal website before classes start.
